Woodlot Trail Blog, Feb. 2-8
Hope you’ve been enjoying the trails! Coverage is getting a little thin, so today (Feb. 2nd) will be the last groom until we get more snow.

Great update, Bob — thanks for keeping us posted on the grooming situation. Thin snow is always a gamble, but we appreciate the effort to get Woodlot trails ready for whenever the next storm arrives. Hang in there until more snow falls!
What a lovely snapshot of trail conditions — the detail about snowpack and grooming genuinely helps plan the week ahead for members. Cross-country skiing in February has its own meditative rhythm, and updates like this are gold for the community. I tend to record quick voice memos during outdoor activities, and editing them later with Whisper Web for accurate browser-based transcription has become a reliable part of my note-taking workflow.
Bummer about the grooming pause—Feb. 2nd was my last run and you could definitely tell the snow was getting thin. Fingers crossed for a big dump soon so you can fire up the machines again. In the meantime, I’ll be over here trying to guess cartoon colors on toon toon.
Hi Bob, thanks for the update. It’s always interesting to see how consistent practice—whether on the trails or in learning a language—builds real muscle memory over time. I’ve been using learn Chinese in a very casual way alongside my routine, mostly focused on real-life practice and immersion rather than anything too formal, and it feels like a steady kind of progress. Hope we get more snow soon so the grooming can resume!
Thanks for keeping us updated on the grooming schedule—really appreciate the effort you’ve put into maintaining the trails despite the thin snow. Fingers crossed for a good storm soon so we can get back out there regularly. In the meantime, I’ll be passing the days trying to guess the daily movie on the game.

Thanks for the update, Bob and team! Fingers crossed for a good snowfall soon so we can get back out there. Been thinking it’d be fun to create some ASCII trail signs or trip report headers for the club updates too—might have to play around with that!
Appreciate the update, Bob! The Woodlot trails sounded like they were in decent shape before the thaw. I’ve been recording quick audio notes on my phone about trail conditions—it’s easy to share with fellow skiers who want a heads-up before heading out. Fingers crossed for more snow soon!
Great update, Bob. The Woodlot is a gem in the winter, and it’s always tough when the coverage thins out. On a similar note of productivity, I’ve been using a tool called figcanvas to generate scientific illustrations and data figures in minutes instead of hours. It’s AI-driven, supports flowcharting and code-based data visualization, and exports to SVG for easy editing. A real time-saver when the deadlines pile up. Hope we get that snow soon!
Hi Bob, thanks for the update. It’s always interesting to see how consistent practice—whether on the trails or in learning a language—builds real muscle memory. I’ve been using studyChinese to reinforce my Chinese listening and typing through daily repetition, and the improvement has been steady. Hope we get more snow soon so the grooming can resume!
Hi Bob, thanks for the update. Too bad about the thin cover—fingers crossed we get another dump soon. In the meantime I’ve been going through my ski photos from earlier this season and turning them into little video clips to hold me over until the next snowfall.
Thanks for the update, Bob. Too bad about the thin coverage — hopefully we’ll get a good dump soon to revive the Woodlot trails. In the meantime, I’ve been experimenting with an AI video tool to create little montages set to music from some of the better ski days this season.
Thanks for the heads-up, Bob. Hopefully a good dump of snow comes soon so the grooming team can keep at it. The Woodlot has been an absolute joy this season, and the classic tracks last weekend were some of the best I’ve had in years. Appreciate everything you and the volunteers do!

Hey Bob, “Pretty Good” is understating things. The Woodlot is in “Great” condition today. The classic trails were fast yet grippy to kick. The skate lane looked great too. Sure, a little snow would help but I loved my ski today! Thanks!
Trails have been touched up. Woodlot is pretty good, Lian connector needs to be skied with caution. Kingswood, Stonehenge and Kingswood connector are very poor, use caution.
The ripple effect can’t be avoided until we get some new snow. The knives on the ginzu are spring loaded and they bounce on the hard packed base and cause the ripple. Just have to suck it up until new snow comes.
Skated most of the trails that Bob groomed today and the going was smooth and fast. Lian St access required some finessing (I mostly stayed in the classic tracks) but was fine once I reached the top of slide down to Kent Road.
I went for a skate ski Sunday in the woodlot and was so surprised to see the trails in such great shape. There seems to be more snow in the woodlot than at Killarney. Great job at grooming.
Conditions magnifiques ce matin dans le boisé de UNB.
Thank you groomers.
At one point it was mentioned that grooming would be suspended until there is more snow but our grooming team was out and it was superb this morning! The classic tracks are still there in great shape as well. So, get out there and ski while it is great! Thanks to the groomers!
My daughter lives in Ontario and my son in Nevada. I was telling them today about the stellar trail work you guys do. Impressive and appreciated
Glad you are back Greg. Stay away from the ditches, too hard on the ribs.
Thanks Bob, I will try to avoid ditches, trees etc
Skate surface has been touched up. Except Stonehenge.
Conditions were great today for classic skiing. Thank you groomers!
Noon hour ‘gang’ was out today and it was absolutely fantastic. We we doing classic, but the skating surface looked nice as well. Awesome what you guys are doing with the snow that we have.
I don’t understand how the trails are as good as they are but… I’m not complaining! The groomers were out again today and doing a fantastic job. Excellent skiing out there.
Classic ski yesterday in the Woodlot with great success. Sure, some snow would be nice but given what we have, it is pretty great. Entering via Liam required a bit of caution but very doable. Groomers, thanks for all your hard work. I understand that you even went out today.
With no snow in the forecast we decided to groom the trails very lightly. The skate deck has been groomed and the track has been refreshed in the Woodlot. P
What is the best access to the woodlot right now?
Lian is okay. Don’t go too fast until you get to Kent Road. Kingswood is very thin at the start for 500 meters and then thin on the Connector. Once at Lollipop you are good to go. The
Without good access, I really just stay away. Most people still go in off the NM highway or run across at KENT from what I can see. I think the club should move on from the UNB Woodlot
Thanks for the update, Bob! The trails have been fantastic this season, and I totally agree with the earlier comment – the grooming has been top-notch. Fingers crossed for some snow soon!
Minimum effort required to just fly out there today! The skate skiing was awesome – the classic track looked pretty great too. Perfect grooming, as always 🤩. Thank you Bob and Rex!
Rex/Bob-Because of the thin snow cover today will be the last groom in the Woodlot until we receive some new snow. Kingswood will not be groomed today for the same reasons.
