Kingswood Resort / UNB Woodlot Cross Country Ski Trails

ISSUE: 

Retrieve injured / lost skiers from Cross Country ski trails 

LOCATION

· Wostawea maintains a network of trails on the western side of the UNB Woodlot, located off Highway 101 (New Maryland Highway) and on Kingswood Resort, on Highway 640 (Hanwell Road) and bound on the west by the TransCanada Highway. 

· Open access is available at the dead end on Brianna St, located off Lian Street and from Kingwood Resort 

· Maps of the ski trails are available on the club website at: http://www.wostawea.ca/ 

WOSTAWEA SKI CLUB: 

1. Reminds members to advise a responsible adult person of where they are going to access the ski trails what trails they plan to ski and how long they plan to ski and to stay on the groomed trails; 

2. Encourages skiers to carry a well charged cell phone with them. 

3. Encourages members to dress appropriately for weather and wind conditions and their skiing ability. 

4. Ensures all trails are clearly identified in accordance with the Wostawea map. 

5. Ensures signage exists directing skiers to exit trails, i.e. Kingswood Resort and Lian / Brianna Streets 

6. Encourages skiers to learn the names / numbers of the ski trails. Ensure that the Public Service Answering Points & 911 centres have access to well-marked and defined Wostawea Ski Trail Maps. 

SKIERS: 

1. If emergency assistance is required CALL 911. 

2. After calling 911, if skiers are able to exit the trails without assistance from responders, call 911 to advise them that you have exited and whether assistance is still necessary. 

RESPONDERS: 

1. NB 911 Bureau receives and transfers calls to a first responder: police / fire / ambulance 

2. Access to the Kingswood Resort / UNB Woodlot with a vehicle can be made from Kingswood Resort and or Brianna Street, off Lian. 

3. Responders are to ensure they have: 

· Adequate vehicles to access the trails; 

· Appropriate method to transport the skier; 

· Access to Wostawea Ski Trail Maps; 

· Clothing appropriate for existing weather conditions.
