WEEKEND NOTE TO SKIERS: BE AWARE OF ICY AREAS, RACE ON SUNDAY

While grooming took place today and conditions on groomed trails were good, be aware there are icy sections along the trails. In particular, the front field adjacent to the parking lot and the terrain park and largely ice and you will need to walk across the field to get to the trails.

Wostawea will be hosting the N.B. Cup #1 on Sunday, February 27th and groomers will be out on the weekend. Sections for Sunday’s race will taped off, with some trails remaining open for those not racing.

Further updates on trail conditions will be posted when available.

PLEASE STAY OFF TRAILS TOMORROW FOR BETTER GROOMING RESULTS THURSDAY

Due to the forecasted rain overnight and very warm temperatures tomorrow, Wostawea is encouraging trail users to avoid using the Killarney trails tomorrow except for the Lakeside trail.

We realize this is a big ask but here’s the rationale: avoiding the trails tomorrow will allow the water to drain off and will prevent potholes from forming. The integrity of the trails will be maintained and groomers will get better results when they groom again after temperatures drop. Groomers are planning to head out Thursday morning.

❄️ Thank you for your commitment to quality skiing at Killarney. ❄️

FRIDAY GROOMING UPDATE: NO SATURDAY GROOMING, LESSONS CANCELLED

Below is the message from the City regarding grooming plans in light of this weather and the forecast.

“We brought the side by side out to Killarney today and attached the groomer. We will NOT be grooming tomorrow in order to preserve the trails and allow the park to drain. Looking at all predicted forecasts we plan to go out early Sunday morning and will attempt to groom 1, E, a section of 6 (not the top part) and 7. We will do our best to scratch out an entrance. We will be not be setting classic tracks but will keep our focus on providing a safe surface on those four trails. If things progress well on Sunday we will go again early Monday morning.”

In light of these conditions, all Saturday lessons are cancelled.

SUNDAY UPDATE

Groomers were scheduled to hit the trails again last night and we haven’t received an update so we can’t be specific on which trails have been groomed and whether tracks are set.

We expect that trails 1, 2, 3, E and Lakeside were groomed and, if time permits, additional trails as well.

If you ski today, please share your experience here on the comments section so fellow skiers read your thoughts on conditions and trail status.

Layer up and have a great ski!

FRIDAY UPDATE ... PISTENBULLY IS BACK!

Thanks to the dedicated team at Fleet Division, the City has the PistenBully out of the shop and on the trails.

The City continues to train their new operator who will be running the PistenBully this weekend on both Saturday and Sunday.

Getting the machine back on the trails is great news for Killarney given the current storm and the effort that will be needed to groom the trails. Impeccable timing that is much appreciated!

WEDNESDAY UPDATE - PISTENBULLY NEEDING REPAIR, PLANS RE: GROOMING

Please note that the hydraulic drive on the PistenBully (PB) failed yesterday and is out of commission until the issue is assessed and fixed. The City hopes to get the PB back on the trails as soon as possible.

In the meantime, trails will be groomed by the side by side and the Ginzu and the focus will be on grooming #1, 2, 3, E, Lakeside, and the ski cross park. Once these trails are shaped, grooming will extend further. Weekend grooming will be done as usual .

Please keep an eye on this blog for further updates.

3:30 PM UPDATE FROM GROOMERS

We have the side by side groomer out and the whole park is good to go with freshly groomed trails on # 6 and 7.
